MEW shows me the option to "renew" a lot of ENS domains that should have expired months ago.
I just want to release all of them and get the locked ETH back. It will only be 1 or 2 ETH but that's still meaningful to me. I have asked this multiple times on multiple different forums and never gotten a straight answer.
It would seem like this should be relatively simple if ENS devs want any real-world adoption at all. I purchase the domains with Mist back in the day not MetaMask if that makes any diff. I don't use Mist any more but could re-download it I suppose.
Edit: the ENS site also has a Return button on the management page for every domain which will give you your money back: https://app.ens.domains
Hi, thank you for your response.
That first article is from 2018 and I don't want to access my private wallet though MyCrypto. I don't even know what that is.
The ENS site only syncs to MetaMask. My domains were purchased through Mist.
Can you import your it private key into Meta Mask, or into a hardware wallet and use that through Meta Mask? Mist is a dead product, so your choices are to call the contract manually, or to update to a wallet that’s still being developed.
Are there any security risks with importing a private key into MetaMask? Scares me a bit tbh because I've never imported my private key anywhere.
Anytime you store your private key digitally (ex: mist or MetaMask), you take in a pretty big risk because it’s only as secure as you can personally secure your computer. For most people, that’s very low security.
I don’t have any concerns about Meta Mask security, just make sure you don’t download an unofficial MetaMask plugin that steals your keys.
If you plan on holding crypto long-term, you should get a hardware wallet. The popular ones are compatible with MetaMask and MyCrypto, which means you get ease of use and really good security.
MyEtherWallet and MyCrypto are Etherrum wallets, you can import the Mist wallet (a json file) and use them to interact with a contract. Metamask also has the option to import a json file as a new account.
How do I import Mist into MEW? I don't see any instructions on their site.
Also, why would this be necessary if the ENS is tied to my account? Since it's already registering when I sign in regularly I don't understand why I'd need to import my old Mist data. The whole point of the blockchain is that all of these transactions are already public.
you can also manage them in myetherwallet
